A career in the care industry can offer some of the most stimulating and rewarding work that you can find anywhere in the UK at the present moment. Here are some of the things that you should keep in mind if you decide to follow no this career path.

  • Getting the right kind of qualifications. This is very dependent on what type of care you are looking to go into. These roles may require extra learning and in most cases you will certainly need a care certificate or NVQ Level 2 in health and social care.

  • Your attitude towards the people that you care for is probably one of the most, if not the most important element, of this job role. You must want to look after the people that you are charged with caring for. It helps to have a healthy  interest in other humans and be able to show empathy towards their circumstances.  Being able to communicate with people from all walks of life is also a vital skill in care work.
  • The hours for social work  are varied and usually related to shifts. Be prepared to work some evenings and weekends and maybe even the odd bank holiday. There is also a large amount of legal and safety documentation that you must be aware of.
